Head of Scheduling

Purpose

To ensure reliable, accurate, and compliant scheduling services across Alpiq’s trading desks, this role leads to the development and performance of the Scheduling Team while aligning with strategic goals in Flexibility, Trading, and Origination. The position carries end-to-end responsibility for power and gas nominations across markets, overseeing daily operations and driving continuous process improvement, automation, and system enhancements. By maintaining strong collaboration with internal and external stakeholders and actively contributing to new market entries and product developments, the Head of Scheduling plays a critical role in supporting Alpiq’s commercial execution and operational excellence.

Your main responsibilities

  • Lead the Scheduling Department in line with Alpiq’s strategic priorities in Flexibility, Trading, and Origination, ensuring team structure, role clarity, and individual development.
  • Ensure the accurate, timely, and compliant execution of daily power and gas nominations across all relevant markets and legal entities.
  • Deliver a full range of scheduling services, including exchange processing, cross-border auction support, market access, sub-balance group management, and third-party services.
  • Oversee and improve scheduling processes to ensure compliance with all applicable TSO and market operator rules and maintain robust internal controls.
  • Drive continuous improvement of Alpiq’s scheduling systems, with a strong focus on automation, operational efficiency, and collaboration with IT.
  • Support the development and implementation of new products and market entries by ensuring scheduling readiness and operational integration.
  • Maintain effective collaboration with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure smooth scheduling operations and alignment with business needs.

 

Your profile

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, IT, Energy Systems, Economics, or a related quantitative field

  • 5 to 10 years of experience in energy trading, scheduling, or operations within power/gas markets, including 2 years in a leadership or senior coordination role.

  • Extensive knowledge of scheduling processes in European gas and power markets
  • Deep understanding of scheduling systems and platforms, including ETRM systems and market interfaces
  • Strong ability in automation of workflows/digitalisation of manual processes
  • Advanced programming skills (Python or similar)
  • Experienced in applying of ML/AI tools/libraries
  • Advanced knowledge of Git Source Control (GitLab)
  • Good knowledge of databases and standard webservices (SQL, API) 
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor high-performing teams, with excellent decision-making under time pressure in real-time market conditions.

  • Exceptional communication and cross-functional collaboration skills, able to bridge operational, commercial, and regulatory priorities effectively.

  • Fluent in English, German is an advantage
