Photovoltaic Powerplant Designer (f/m/d), 80-100%

In the context of Alpiq’s enhanced focus on renewables and our ambition to play a very active role in the energy transition, we are now looking for a PV plants Designer to join us. In this newly created role you will specifically focus on utility scale Alpine PV plant and provide respective technical expertise in the context of greenfield design, planning and construction of Alpine PV Plants. You will be based in Olten or Lausanne and work in coordination with our Solar PV Engineer and PV plant execution team. This role requires you to be proficient in French and German.
Your main responsibilities
- Overall responsibility of the design and optimization of a utility scale photovoltaic powerplant
- Optimization of PV powerplants design for different objectives, minimum yield, minimum seasonal yield, LCOS, based on sensitivity analysis,
- Leading the team of plant designers and external mandates to achieve program objectives.
- Performing Basic and detailed design of architecture and layout using solar plant design CAD software (PV Case or similar)
- Defining basic and detailed specification of DC/AC equipment configuration of solar PV plants with different constraints and challenges (climatic, topographic, logistic).
- Simulation / optimization of Solar energy production using industry standard tools (PVsyst or similar),
- Participation to negotiation with equipment suppliers and/or EPC
- Following up on technical, contractually agreed terms (eg: yield calculation, OEM manufacture inspections, assembly, field completion…etc) during construction phase until take over
- Leading relation with third party consultants, defining the scope required for the specific solar technology area and validating their work.
- Leading relation with research institutions & universities, defining research project scope, following up deliveries and results.
- Experience in site visits to participate in the evaluation of new assets into the company.
Your profile
- Bachelor or Master degree in electrical, renewable, industrial engineering or equivalent
- At least 5-8 years of experience in the PV industry, including basic and feasibility design, detailed design for complex terrain, construction and commissioning of utility scale PV Powerplants, as well as the simulation and forecasting of electricity production
- Experience in technical due diligence of projects under development, the assessment of technical and commercial contractual obligations
- Experience in the management of external engineers and consultants
- Good strategic understanding and ability to combine the technical with the commercial view
- Good stakeholder management and influencing skills, ability to adapt communication to target audience
- Proactive, flexible and self-driven personality
- Proficient in German and French, required for negotiations and technical discussions
- Fluent in English, any additional language a plus
- Good knowledge of Solar Design tools such as: AutoCAD, PVsyst software, etc…
