Gas Operator

In order to support the expansion of our gas portfolio, we are seeking to hire a dynamic and enthusiastic person to join our Gas Scheduling team in Olten, Switzerland or Milan, Italy. This role will have a strong focus on the Italian gas market while also contributing to our broader European gas scheduling activities. We are offering a very interesting role within a highly motivated team in a diverse and international environment. The candidate will have frequent contacts with gas traders, trading counterparts, Transmission and Storage System Operators as well as numerous internal stakeholders.

 

Your accountabilities

  • Handle daily gas scheduling activities across several European markets, including nominations, confirmations, capacity bookings and operational follow-up.
  • Check positions with trading counterparts, Transmission and Storage System Operators.
  • Integrate and operate new products (storages, VPPs, swing options...).
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement and automation of scheduling processes in collaboration with relevant internal teams.
  • Coordinate closely with Trading, Middle Office, Back Office and other internal stakeholders to ensure smooth operational execution.
  • Support the resolution of operational issues and react promptly to market, system or counterparty-related incidents.
  • Monitor market rules and provide traders and originators with constructive feedback of operational conditions and opportunities.
  • Oversee gas operations in Italy and serve as the primary point of contact for Italian TSOs, originators, external counterparties and internal stakeholders.
  • Support expansion of Alpiq gas activities with ad-hoc analysis on a project basis.
  • Contribute to balancing and optimizing Alpiq spot gas positions during and outside of normal business hours.
  • Perform piquet duty (on-call 24/7 from Monday to Sunday and weekend shift) according to a shift schedule

 

Your profile

  • Degree in computer science, engineering, economics or business (min. bachelor level).
  • Good communication skills, fluency in English and Italian, other language(s) highly desirable.
  • Previous experience in the energy trading sector is of advantage but not a prerequisite.
  • Strong affinity with IT tools and process automation; knowledge of Excel, VBA, Python or SQL is an advantage.
  • Structured, reliable and detail-oriented working style, with the ability to manage operational tasks independently.
  • Excellent team player willing to interact with people within and outside of Alpiq.
  • Ability to work in an accurate way while under pressure and to respect strict deadlines
