This function reports to the COO Trading and will be key in realizing the transformation and future ambitions of Alpiq’s Trading Division. The COO team is a dynamic and diverse group of 12 professionals located over the 3 trading locations of Alpiq. The team drives strategic business change, trade support operations, new product development and is instrumental in solving operational, commercial, and strategic issues facing the business. In this role you will work closely with front office, analysts, middle office, risk management, process management and IT.

 

Main Responsibilities

  • Take active role in defining the Trading business architecture and aligning Trading business strategy, requirements and end-to-end process with target IT landscape
  • Steer specific Trading strategic projects with significant IT investments
  • Take a lead role to increase Trading operational efficiency
  • Functional support for the definition of the target IT architecture (systems and interfaces) for all Trading business lines in close cooperation with IT
  • Design of strategic road map to converge to global target IT architecture in conjunction with IT with the focus to generate maximum efficiency 
  • Business support for the analysis and choice of technological solutions that provide optimal alignment with Trading business strategy and business requirements (including participation in vendor selection processes and vendor assessments)
  • Expert support for the business steering of new initiatives which require significant IT investments 
  • Review and control of Trading IT cost in order to drive efficiency improvements 
  • Identifying areas for improvement across Trading systems and processes, laying out the functional requirements and drive implementation together with IT and other functions.

 

Your Profile:

  • Master’s degree in Economics, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or Information Systems.
  • 10+ years of proven work experience in the energy trading domain, in either an investment bank, trading house or utility. Ideally in front office or technology role.
  • In-depth knowledge of front-to-back end-to-end-processes involved in trading financial and physical power and gas in the European energy market.
  • Strong technical toolkit (experience with cloud environments, data warehouses / data platforms, ETRM applications, EDM applications, etc.)
  • Experience in project management in projects involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Highly collaborative; able to build relationships with risk, middle office, process management, quant, IT and trading teams.
  • Outstanding communication skills: ability to respond rapidly, and analytically, to situations as they arise.
  • Key required skills: analytic and structured thinker, result oriented with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Capacity to formulate, structure, synthesize and explain complex topics to C-Level audiences. Strong entrepreneurial skills. Capacity to organize and to steer. Ability to challenge and motivate people. Ability to take decisions and to lead complex projects.
  • Full proficiency in English, any other language (French, German) is an advantage
  • Additional relevant skills: international mindset, determination, resilience, and team spirit.
